Healthy Homes Guide is a trading name of Ian Chamberlain Carpentry & Joinery Ltd, based in New Zealand. We provide healthy-home education through healthyhomesguide.net, our online courses and one-on-one sessions.
We are responsible for your personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. Where you are located in the United Kingdom or European Union, we are the "controller" of your information under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and country, when you sign up for the free guide, buy a course, book a session or contact us.
Account and course information: your login, the courses you have bought, and your progress.
Payment information: payments are processed by payment provider, Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details.
Information about your home: details, photos or plans you choose to share with us, for example in a one-on-one session.
Health-related information you choose to share: some people tell us about asthma, allergies or chemical sensitivities so we can tailor advice. Please only share what you are comfortable with. We use it only to help you, and never for marketing.
Messages: emails, form submissions, and comments you send us.
Technical information: your IP address, browser type, device, and pages visited, collected through cookies and similar tools (see section 8).
Sometimes we receive information about you from someone other than you, for example:
our payment provider, confirming your payment;
social media platforms, if you contact us or respond to one of our posts or adverts there;
a person who books a course or session on your behalf.
When this happens, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, as required by Information Privacy Principle 3A of the Privacy Act 2020, unless you already know or a legal exception applies.
We use your information to:
provide the free guide, courses and one-on-one sessions you ask for;
manage your account and course access;
take payments and keep business and tax records;
answer your questions and provide support;
send you our newsletter and offers, if you have agreed (you can opt out at any time);
understand how our website is used, so we can improve it;
keep our website and systems secure, and meet our legal obligations.
If you are in the UK or EU, we rely on these legal grounds:
Contract: to deliver courses and sessions you buy.
Consent: for marketing emails, non-essential cookies, and any health information you choose to share. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Legitimate interests: to run, secure and improve our business, where this does not override your rights.
Legal obligation: to keep financial and tax records.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
Service providers who help us run our business, such as our website, course and email platform Mastermind, our payment provider Stripe, our video-call tool for sessions Zoom, and website security and delivery services;
Professional advisers such as our accountant or lawyer, where needed;
Authorities, where the law requires it.
Our service providers may only use your information to provide their service to us.
Some of our service providers store information outside New Zealand, including in the United States. Before sending information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it will be protected in a way comparable to New Zealand law, as Information Privacy Principle 12 requires. For UK and EU visitors, we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Our website uses cookies. Some are essential for the site and your course login to work. Others help us understand how the site is used [delete if not used: through tools such as Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) pixel]. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may then not work properly.
We only send marketing emails if you have signed up or agreed to receive them. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us and we will remove you.
We use reasonable security measures, including secure (HTTPS) connections and reputable, password-protected platforms. No online system is completely secure, so if a privacy breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
We keep your information only as long as we need it. Financial records are kept for seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires. Marketing information is kept until you unsubscribe.
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. There is no charge for this.
If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to ask us to delete your information, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. Residents of Australia, Canada and some US states have similar rights, and we will respect them.
